The cotyledon is a tiny leaf within a plant seed. It stores food for the plant before it can find nutrients in the soil and photosynthesize. All potential is untapped until the first true leaves grow and can provide for the seedling. Finally the plant grows and the seed coating breaks as the plant acquires energy from every source compatible, inspiration to grow.

The plant blossoms basking in wealth of energy it has acquired and beneath the surface its fruit grows every larger hidden from the world to see until it is finally pulled from the ground, pulled from a field of similar plants that yet are unequal. The richness of the plant’s fruit speaks for itself leaving spectators in awe and disbelief. Some of the other plants in the field stretch their roots and spread their leaves trying to become like the one plant, yet are unequal.

Finally, four others are picked from the field but even then, there is only one plant to triumph over them all. One plant had supreme potential and the others were yet unequal. Cotyledon is a depiction of a contest, one seed will bear the fruit of victory, thus this piece speaks visually. Quod erat demonstrandum.
